ECDL

What is ECDL?

The European Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL) is the internationally recognised qualification which enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills, managed by the British Computer Society (BCS).

ECDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to develop their IT skills and enhance their career prospects.

The Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Computer Literacy & Information Technology (CLAIT) is also another recognised qualification, although it does not include the Concepts of IT and File management to the same extent. Some of you may have other relevant IT qualifications.

Currently, students following the Social Work degree need to demonstrate familiarity with the components of the ECDL. This familiarity can be obtained by working through the worksheets available online from the ICT Skills section or from printed copies in the IT labs

The NHS (in England) has adopted the ECDL as a reference standard, and many employees are taking the modules. Hence, all healthcare students should endeavour to gain these skills whilst studying at UWE.

The links to the self-evaluation forms below give you access to forms for your personal evaluation and to keep in your portfolio. Remember to keep evidence of your IT skills, you can use files and pages from your assignments or signed evidence sheets if you are on a Social Work degree.
