Academic and Study Skills Support

STUDY SKILLS ADVISORS

The School of Health & Social Care has two part time Study Skills Advisors, Carolyn Britton and Elizabeth Langford, who, between them, are available Monday to Thursday.

Their role is to advise and support staff in developing students’ academic and study skills, particularly in relation to the Graduate Development Programme.

Support for students
They offer individual support for students with dyslexia or other disability
(maximum of one 30 minute session per week) for any study skills issue.
Students will need to have an Educational Psychologist’s Report to access this ongoing support.

They can offer these students help with interpreting assignment guidelines, understanding feedback, academic writing and general academic advice, as well as guidance with organisational skills.

They are able to do initial screening for possible signs of dyslexia using the Quickscan CD Rom Programme prior to referral to the Disability Centre at Frenchay Campus.

They are also responsible for maintaining and updating the Study Skills webpages, which are a useful online resource bank for staff and students.

Individual appointments are booked via the diary held by the Student Advisers in Room 1C01 Tel: 0117 32  88419
