It is important that students are not discriminated against in their progression arrangements or for transferring between courses. This might mean that reasonable adjustments need to be made to the various stages in the progression or transfer process. Care needs to be taken to ensure that the requirements for progression are genuine competence standards and that disabled students are not being discriminated against because they are unable to meet those criteria because of their disability but who would be capable of completing the course.
At the point of progression, students should be aware that staff should be checking about what their perception is of how the support arrangements are working for them. Feedback is essential to ensure that they received the right type of support at the right time.
At the start of each academic year, the student should be offered the opportunity if they wish, to meet with their personal tutor to discuss teaching and learning needs and identify and overcome possible barriers. This will ensure that the student is aware of all the different support mechanisms and resources available to them in case they were unaware. If this is not happening the the student should seek advice from Student Advisers.
