AS A STUDENT IN EUROPE
At the University the teaching is in both the host language and English. You can negotiate what you attend when you prepare to go. Practice areas all speak English, and English is widely spoken in Finland and Norway. Students spending time in either of these countries can apply to attend an Intensive Language Course (EILC) for which they will receive a supplementary Erasmus grant. There is a separate application process for this and you will be informed of the deadlines once they are available. Places are limited. These classes can vary from 4 - 6 weeks over the summer and can prove very valuable.
Whilst in Rovaniemi or Bergen you will meet students and staff from all over the world. As there is also teacher exchange with UWE, you may bump into familiar faces! Before you go you will need to have agreed a learning contract with the coordinators at both Universities. You will be asked to outline these as part of your initial application process, so it’s worth giving some thought to this.
ALL EXCHANGES
After you have been selected, it will be your responsibility to submit course and accommodation application forms to the relevant university by their set deadlines. From then on you need to have the initiative to follow through with all the arrangements needed to get yourself and your possessions to the relevant country at the appropriate time. There are induction/orientation programmes which are aimed to help you settle in and to orientate you to the systems. If you are a dissertation student you must negotiate distance supervision with your supervisor and be competent with library databases. All students going on exchange will miss the first 2 weeks of the theory block at UWE. You must arrange with the Module Leader any additional work that you may need to do.
