Hearing loops
There are a number of rooms at Glenside that have the university IR hearing system installed in them and should be booked out for classes that have students with hearing impairments as long as the Faculty is aware that students require this service.
Users must obtain a special receiver and neck loop to be able to use the system, these decode the IR signal and convert it into an electrical signal in the personal neckloop that can then be picked up by a hearing aid in the “T” position. These use internal batteries and need to be charged to work. All of these rooms require the use of dedicated Radio Microphone to be used by the speaker. All this equipment is located within LTTU and can be booked out if required. It is preferable that if a student requires the system, they contact LTTU at least a day in advance for a demonstration test to be carried out to ensure all is working prior to the teaching session. This usually leads to less stress on the day. The test need only be carried out once to check compatibility.
