Strong perfume and cigarette odours will spread from nurse to patients. Imagine you have
just had an operation and feel nauseous when the nurse caring for you smells of cigarettes or the latest heavy scent. The
nurse can't blame you if you vomit but could be the cause of your further distress.
Consider what happens to a glass of water when concentrated orange is added.
Think of occasions when you notice cigarette smoke as it diffuses across a room or when someone has been generous with his or her perfume/ aftershave.
Diffusion is the net movement of a substance from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration.
